Summertime is just around the corner – can you believe it? As the temperatures start to climb, you’ll also want to look for ways to heat up sales at your restaurant this month. These five restaurant marketing ideas for promotions in June range from food to beverage specials, plus ways to engage your customers on social media. With these summertime promotions, you can help keep your restaurant jumping and sales high.
June 3: National Egg Day
This food holiday is an eggcellent opportunity to attract customers to your restaurant because eggs bring plenty of options to create new dishes or specials. This versatile ingredient can be used across cuisine types and time of day, from breakfast chilaquiles to a classic crème brûlée.
You can also look to industry trends to inspire specials that your customers may already be craving. Shakshuka, a North African dish that combines eggs in a spicy tomato sauce, has been picking up in popularity across breakfast and brunch menus.
If you have exceptionally talented chefs, you could even challenge them to perfect an omurice, the fluffy Japanese omelet that has been trending on the Internet for the past year. But your egg dishes don’t necessarily need to be fancy to be successful. Eggs make great toppers on toast, pasta, burgers – even pizza!
June 10: National Iced Tea Day
Just as the weather heats up, iced tea becomes an even more popular way to cool down. Offering iced tea specials on this day can help bring in customers looking for a refreshing thirst quencher. Classic unsweetened iced tea is a favorite of many consumers, but you can also look to add some variety in your iced tea flavors to attract different tastes.
Raspberry, peach, and sweet tea are usually popular options, but beverage menus are showing trends in other unique flavors. According to Datassential, compared to last year’s menu trends, citrus iced tea flavors have increased by 27 percent, coconut iced tea has grown by 23 percent, and honey-infused iced tea has risen by 20 percent.
Also growing in popularity are strawberry, apple, hibiscus, honeydew, and mango flavors. Or, if you’re looking for a special that’s still trendy but a little more out of the box, iced matcha, Thai iced tea, and bubble tea can all be considered iced teas.
June 17: Eat Your Vegetables Day and Father’s Day
Sure, typical Father’s Day restaurant marketing ideas emphasize meat-starring dishes like steaks and barbecue. But you can help your restaurant stand out from the crowd by also capitalizing on rising food trends for Father’s Day. Besides, dad always said to eat your vegetables!
Veggie-centric entrees are becoming more prominent on restaurant menus and in demand by consumers. Not just vegetarians and vegans are calling for more plant-based dishes, but even your everyday diner is looking for healthier options these days, cutting down on cholesterol and ramping up on the greens. Cauliflower steaks pair well with a trendy chimichurri sauce, and jack fruit is quickly becoming one of the most popular pulled pork substitutes.
Veggie burgers continue to also be popular options. You can also look for ways to sneak veggies into side dishes, like broccoli “tater” tots, crispy eggplant fries, or the increasingly popular cauliflower rice.
June 19: National Martini Day
Whether you’re a cosmo fan or prefer your dry martini “shaken, not stirred,” this holiday is a great opportunity to mix up your Happy Hour specials.
With a ‘Tini Tuesday theme, you can offer a variety of both classic and unique martinis that are sure to please a post-work crowd. Even the base of the drink lends itself to diversity: vodka or gin, with or without vermouth, and mixed with or without ice. Adding in different twists and flavors on top of that is how your bartenders and mixologists can show off their skills and creativity.
Fruit flavors are a usually good bet for martini recipes, with anything from pomegranate and lime to blueberry and lemon making for tasty ‘tinis. If you want a more tropical twist, mango, pineapple, and lychee are also fantastic martini ingredients. You can also take a more decadent approach by incorporating chocolate, espresso, or caramel.
June 21: National Selfie Day
Despite selfie sticks falling out of favor (especially with several popular tourist destinations), the selfie trend is still alive and well. This fun holiday is also an opportunity to engage with your customers and increase your word of mouth marketing by encouraging guests to post selfies snapped at your restaurant.
To spark the conversation, you can post selfies of your own staff on social media, with captions like “Our goal is to make you smile – not just on National Selfie Day, but every day! Tag us in your own selfie to share your experience at our restaurant.” Share photos of different employees’ selfies throughout the day, showing both your front of house and back of house teams.
You’ll also want to keep an eye on your feed to see when customers are tagging you in their posts, so you can respond. Retweeting or re-gramming your customer’s photos is also a great way to show your appreciation – just make sure you ask the poster’s permission before you share their photo. You could even sweeten the deal by running a sweepstakes with the post, offering a gift certificate or some other special prize to one lucky poster who shares their selfie at your restaurant and tags you or use your specific hashtag.
