The reflective nature of our holiday season and anticipation of a new year provides the opportunity to thank your teams for their commitment to your organization and customers. While I’ll leave the content of what you want to say to you, keeping your message simple and focused will be most effective.
I suggest the core of your message, hand written or email, should be to thanks each employee for their hard work the past year. Although we are hopefully saying thanks throughout the year, it is significantly more meaningful around the holiday season. Acknowledge specific achievements the team (not individuals) have accomplished; large parties or events that were team oriented and memorable are always a favorite to call out at this time.
Close by wishing them a Happy New Year. I know it is tempting to talk about next year’s goals, missed opportunities for the year or things you need them to work on, but this is not the time or place. Please consider saving that for shift meetings or other occasions. Now is the time just to say Thanks and Happy New Year.
At the end of the day, your employees are the key to your brand and customer service, so be sure to thank them and make them feel as important as you want them to make your customers feel. And if you have the opportunity, this is a great time to provide a special meal or festival event. Either way, the key to year-end holiday messaging is to do one!
