ABC News Nightline Travel Hacks

When is the last time that a restaurant customer went on a national news program to talk about earning their tenth entrée for free?  Needless to say, when you think of that way, it doesn’t sound like the most newsworthy event or reward, which may beg the question of whether or not it is the kind of reward that really drives behavior – at least in comparison to earning practically free vacations.

Sound like an unlikely or unattainable goal?  Maybe not.

In today’s world of personalized customer experiences, rewards of choice are becoming increasingly more important to drive behavior.  Earning toward travel, college educations and retail purchases are individual goals, personalized to each and every customer looking for ways to earn toward that goal. Rewards are really about the consumer, and what they want to earn, not about the restaurant and what they want to give.

Recently, ABC News ran a story on Nightline featuring “travel hacker” Bryce Conway.  He explained all the ways he earns practically free travel – and he explained it while sitting at program restaurant Oasis Café in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where he was earning United MileagePlus® award miles for dining there, after flying there for free.

Rewards are becoming a way of life for many – while not every customer may be as fanatical about the process as Conway, most customers earning their reward of choice are just as passionate about it.  If you haven’t already, it may be time to rethink your restaurant rewards.
